I thought VVD had a good game along with Konate, Trent and Robbo were very poor

Apart from his "clearance" header that led to their goal, thought he was ok too, not his normal self but let's work into the Season.

      Was only Matchday 1

Was I watching a different game? I thought he was really good

I didn't say he was bad, just looked a bit flat footed at times.

Thought Virgil had the best game he’s had in a while yesterday. Was delighted when he stepped out in the second half to attack ball to feet in the half space versus waiting for their midfielder to gather and run at him. Hopefully a turning point as he’s had a difficult 12 months.

Are all red cards, a three match ban?

He was unlucky. It was a foul but never a red card.

M Owen and L Ferdinand both they he deserved it because he is the last man but it was just a foul.

I think the biased FA are going to make an example of him here and enforce their new 'respect the ref' thing.

Whatever the ban is for the sending off I expect it will be increased ... just because.

Don't see how it could be increased when it was a wrong decision initially, it wasn't a malicious tackle, there was no intent and no injury in spite of the player going down like he'd been F***ing shot, obviously looking for the pen.
Think Virgil will get a reduced decision on appeal mate.

Really? Have rules changed again? Always thought it was 3 match but in extreme circumstances can be more.

      Personally I think it's a red.

I appreciate that there's an element of galvanising against "them" to rally the group.
But to the letter that's a red, unfortunately.

It already throws a highlight on the squad as Klopp wouldn't have wanted to load playing time on
Matip already. No doubt we'll see more of Quansah, who impressed when he came on v Newcastle.

It was a red card - hard to argue against it.  He went for the ball but caught the man who would have been clear in on goal

If I’m reading this rule correctly?

DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY (DOGSO)

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.

      Within their own penalty area????

I am sorry as I know people on here will say I have a vendetta or he has become the scapegoat but I can only say what I see with my own eyes and correctly or incorrectly think.

VVD is not good enough to be our starting CB if we want to continue winning trophies and titles, he does not have the pace he once had and therefore now his decision-making is compromised. He makes positional choices that he can no longer back up with this ability i.e. playing a high line and trusting his ability to catch a player instead of sitting off them a bit.

Yesterday he made a rash decision because he felt that he wasn't up for the sprint with Isak but if he had in fact dropped off a bit earlier he could have dealt with him, this VVD just isn't the same.

The red card itself was questionable but the decision made by Virg to make that challenge was completely wrong.

I try to look at fouls against our guys as "would I want that called for us?" I would absolutely want the card to be red if that was Salah getting fouled by Burn. It wasn't a malicious foul by any means. He was playing the ball AND won it, but only after he went through him.

I've read there the possibility that it could only be a 1 game ban. We will see.

VVD has started this year similar to how he started last year. Definitely lost a step and some confidence in his ability. This red card won't help matters much

I thought it was only a 3 game ban for violent conduct and it could be less if it was a professional foul, stopping a goalscoring opportunity.

Use abusive language towards a ref...ban

Use a high elbow against a player (as a ref) and nothing

      Makes sense.
