Im surprised how many Super reds supporters on here are willing to give Mark Gonzalez another season to prove himself.  To me he never at any point looked like the speed merchant that he was billed as being or having the silky skills to rival ronaldo like was suggested by some reporters when we chased him and signed him.  Very average when he did get fit and play and nowhere near good enough to be a world renowned winger, and thats what we need if we want to compete, we need a super confident speedy winger that can deliver in big and small games. Who that may be i dont know but maybe his name might have been Alesandre Pato who just signed for Chelsea (I think) cos we didnt get off our arses again and get pen to paper, in anycase gonzalez isnt in the top twnety wingers in the world so why should he play for us!?? we are liverpool after all huh?!? lets splash some cash and get some quality instead of trying to unearth gems all the time.  the anelka's and henrys of the world dont come round that often (I.e. buying them for narly nothing and selling them for massive amounts).  Lets buy quality!!

Officially a Betis player now, so much for the next big thing  :(

We should of sold Harry and kept Speedy, hope we don't live to regret it!

Just because Wikipedia says so doesn't mean sh*t. They don't have a link to an article. I'll wait for official confirmation, but certain he WILL eventually leave. Probably the deal will be done after the Copa America.

      in spanish:
      He has confirmed it:

      Edu I found this on www.liverpoolfc.tv : -

      GONZALEZ READY FOR COPA AMERICA

Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez is expected to start for Chile when they play Ecuador in the Copa America group match tonight.
Chile are in a tough group that also includes Brazil and Mexico and Gonzalez will be hoping his country can get off to a good start against Ecuador.

Meanwhile Javier Mascherano and Argentina kick-off their Copa America tournament on Thursday night when they face USA.

Looks like he's still a Liverpool player - for now.

Gonzalez will fit in at Betis, says Hector Cuper
      17th July 2007
      Daily Mail

Newly appointed Real Betis coach Hector Cuper has approved the Spanish club's move for Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez.

Betis narrowly avoided relegation from the Primera Liga last season after finishing in 16th place, and are currently busy rebuilding their squad.

Gonzalez, who previously spent a year on loan with Real Sociedad, is thought to be close to finalising his transfer, along with Portuguese goalkeeper Ricardo and Argentina striker Mariano Pavone, after failing to establish himself at Anfield.

"We will do everything possible to create a team that is strong but that also has a winning mentality," said Cuper, who was confirmed at Betis on Monday after signing a one-year contract.

"The important thing is that this team has a strong personality.

"They (the club's prospective new signings) are all very good players. Ricardo has a great mentality, Pavone has played well for two years in Argentina and Gonzalez can improve a lot."

Gonzalez could be presented alongside the other transfer targets later today.
