Well to be completely honest I know 90% of this forum will turn round and disagree with me. Lets put this for an example. Robbie Fowler left us and joined Leeds. Then came back and everyone loved him again.
Michael Owen left us trying to futher his career (not saying we wouldn't have been good enough to turn him into a much better player). Just what if, what if he came back. Would people love him then? Or boo him?
I think everyone would love him and eagerly wait for what he would do next.
You've got a good point Court. I reckon there's a lot of reds who think the same as you. He was a player of pure quality for us and he won some very important games for us in the past. On his own sometimes - one that stands out is a certain FA Cup final.
In my opinion though, it's a different kettle of fish between Fowler and Owen leaving and then coming back. The circumstances are different. Fowler loves our club. I don't think Owen loves our club.
It was clear to see that Fowler wasn't getting on with the management before he left our club and that was a big factor for him leaving. In Owens case, he didn't give Rafa a chance. He just wanted out. Which really hurt me to be honest.
Now for a player to play for Liverpool, I always want every player, to WANT to play for Liverpool.
When Fowler came back, he knew he wasn't going to be a regular starter - like he might have been at Man City. But he wanted to be back, playing for Liverpool, any chance he could get. If Owen came back, I think it might be more for personal Glory, than to be playing for the reds.
I still think he can be a good player - he knows where the goal is. I've still got respect for him as a goal scorer. But he's never gonna be the same Owen he was, when he played for us. His injury prone legs are getting older and his pace is fading. And how he left, speaks volumes. As said above, he made his bed. He can lie in it now.
If he did come back and do amazingly well, I would expect you, Court, to say "i told you so"!
